Darkglass Electronics DAADAM Overview

Providing bassists with a unique blend of multiband compression, distortion, and 6-band EQ, the Aggressively Distorting Advanced Machine (ADAM) from Darkglass Electronics sports unique features such as touch-slider control of EQ, three programmable rotating footswitches, and cabinet simulation with five slots.

Hands-on controls include Compression (ratio with makeup gain), Drive (distortion level), Character (adds brightness to distortion), Blend for a wet/dry mix, and Level for overall output volume. Each footswitch doubles as a rotating encoder for intuitive control. You can also use ADAM as a 4-channel USB audio interface and stream wireless Bluetooth signals. A built-in tuner rounds out the versatile features. I/O includes balanced 1/4″ outputs in a stereo pair, an XLR DI output with ground-lift button, an aux input, a 3.5mm TRS MIDI input, and a headphone output with dedicated level control.

Compressor This control allows setting the input gain of the compressor that will translate into how much the signal is compressed while our intelligent make-up gain algorithm keeps the output of the compressor at usable levels. The compressor has 5 ratios available:

• 12:1
• 20:1
• ALL IN

Distortion At the heart of the distortion circuit is an accurate model of Nolly’s favorite vintage distortion unit. In collaboration with Darkglass, he used that as a platform for developing 5 distinctive distortion modes ranging from mild and very articulate distortion to synth like fuzz sounds. Cabinet Simulation The Aggressively Distorting Advanced Machine supports Impulse Response (IR) cabinet simulations and has 5 cabinet slots on board. The default IRs have been captured by Nolly himself. New IRs can be assigned to the 5 slots using the Darkglass Suite (desktop or mobile). 6-Band EQ You can adjust the 6-band EQ on ADAM with intuitive touch-sensitive sliders:

• Low-shelf bass boost
• 12 dB adjustment at 250 Hz
• Control of 12 dB at 500 Hz
• Boost or cut of 12 dB at 1.5 kHz
• Adjust 12 dB at 3 kHz
• High-shelf EQ control

Darkglass Suite Utilizing the desktop or mobile version of the Darkglass Suite allows you to customize the settings of each preset to your liking. The signal-chain can be saved to the available slots, with the embedded noise gate, with the use of the available impulse responses from the Darkglass library, with your own custom responses, or with third-party impulses. Custom routing options for each output are available. And you can use MIDI mapping to control the extra preset slots with program, change commands, and control changes, for the specific controls of your choice.
