TC Electronic DELUXE 65 PREAMP Overview
Classic American Tube Tones Capturing the legendary sparkle and tone of a Fender ’65 Blackface Reverb Deluxe with advanced TC AMPWORX modeling tech, the Combo Deluxe ’65 Preamp from TC Electronic delivers the authentic tone, touch, and feel of a vintage tube amp. Sporting two channels (green for glassy cleans, red for more gain), you can handle everything from blues and jazz to rock and metal.
Each channel features independent gain, volume, and EQ controls for perfect tonal shaping. Unlike the original Reverb Deluxe, this pedal features a mid-frequency EQ control for greater sculpting potential. You can also add more bite quickly with the Bright switch. Both the DI output (ideal for PAs, mixers, and interfaces) and the headphone output (ideal for silent practice) offer IR-based simulations of a Celestion 1×12 G12M Creamback cabinet for the sound of a real vintage combo amp. And as a pedalboard-friendly platform, the Combo Deluxe ’65 Preamp will take drive pedals even better than the inspiration.
Inspired by a Recording Studio Staple Few amps have been recorded in pro studios more than the famed Fender Reverb Deluxe. The ’60s-era Blackface models, renown for their smooth, warm response, are particularly sought after, often selling for eye-watering prices on the used market.
Now you can have the sound that shaped decades of hit records right on your pedalboard. The Reverb Deluxe excels at delivering the stereotypical American tube amp sound: glassy, sparkling cleans, and buzzing, saturated tones when driven that cut through the mix like butter. And with modern enhancements, you can take that legendary sound even further than the original.
Bypass Mode Right out of the box, the Combo Deluxe ’65 is set to Dual Channel mode. This configuration keeps the pedal engaged at all times, granting instant access to each of these unique sonic profiles.
However, if you prefer a more traditional stompbox experience, TC Electronic have incorporated a bypass mode. Entering this mode allows you to simply stomp the pedal on and off, allowing you to switch between bypass and the channel used before entering bypass mode.
Enhanced Spring Reverb When released in 1965, the original amp featured a dual-spring GIBBS tank embedded in a tube-based transformer circuit for generating the reverb sound that so many musicians know and love. To nail that sound, TC Electronic took the very same original GIBBS unit and extracted a high-resolution 4-second impulse response, using a zero-latency convolution engine combined with detailed circuit modeling.
This resulted in a faithful recreation of that sweet, original reverb. In addition, TC Electronic added a Reverb Tone control (which was not on the original amp) in case you want to tailor it for your style of playing.
Built-In 1×12 G12M Cabinet The cabinet speaker plays a crucial role in any combo, and thanks to the advancements in convolution-based IR technology, TC Electronic can now capture the essence of the past with exceptional precision and authenticity. To give you the true sound of the original, they joined forces with Celestion and incorporated the official Celestion impulse response of the revered G12M Creamback 1×12 speaker cab. It’s an excellent match that reproduces every nuance of your riffs and solos with equal amounts of ease and elegance. New Middle EQ Control A Middle knob was nowhere to be found on the original amp in 1965. And if you prefer it just like that then simply leave it, well, in the middle. But upon the launch of the original amp, many users requested a mid-control, and in later revisions, a middle knob was actually added. TC Electronic decided to give you the option to choose whether you want to sculpt the mids or not. Fully Connected The Combo Deluxe ’65 offers three independent outputs, all of which can be used simultaneously for a three-way split. You get a DI output ideal for front-of-house (FOH) and PA systems, a line out, and a headphone out for silent practice. The DI and headphone outputs both feature cab simulation of a Celestion G12M Creamback 1×12 cab, while the line out sends a pure, amp-modeled tone, allowing you to send the line out to an optional external IR loader if desired.
