TC Electronic JIMS 800 PREAMP Overview
Iconic ’80s Powerhouse Resurrected Experience the revered power of the famed Marshall JCM800 with the JIMS 800from TC Electronic, a modeling preamp pedal with the iconic sound of its inspiration thanks to advanced TC AMPWORX technology. Sporting two footswitchable channels, each with gain, volume, and EQ control, the JIMS 800delivers a true amp in a box.
Along with front-panel controls, you also get rear-panel controls that include a knob for adjusting Master Presence and a switch for flipping between Pre and Post boost modes. With Pre boost, you can drive the amp model harder and add a distinctive mid-frequency hump like classic overdrive pedals. Outputs include dedicated DI and headphone outputs, both sporting a detailed cabinet simulation of the Celestion 4×12 G12-65. Ideal as a pedal platform, the JIMS 800 takes external drive pedals extremely well, just like a real high-gain amp.
Dual Channel or Stompbox The first time you plug into JIMS 800, it’ll be in Dual Channel mode. In this mode, the pedal is always on, allowing you to easily switch between the two channels and access their distinct sonic profiles, exactly as it was in the original amp.
But if you’re more into the classic stompbox experience, TC Electronic also made a Bypass mode available. This mode simply allows you to toggle the pedal on and off. In this scenario, you choose which of the two channels you want to punch in and out of your signal chain.
Curing Treble Bleeding It’s a common understanding among guitarists that the original amp had a tendency to sound a bit sharp or edgy. And back in the day, many users sought out a modification to fix the treble bleed.
Acknowledging the significance of this modification, TC Electronic took it into careful consideration during the development of this pedal. Instead of completely eliminating the treble bleed, they decided to reduce its intensity. This adjustment gives you a touch of warmth to the overall sound, while still staying true to the essence of the original amp.
Cabinet Simulation The cabinet speaker plays a crucial role in any combo, and thanks to the advancements in convolution-based IR technology, TC Electronic can now capture the essence of the past with exceptional precision and authenticity. To give you the true sound of the original, they joined forces with Celestion and incorporated the official Celestion impulse response of the revered G12-65 4×12 speaker cab. It’s an excellent match that reproduces every nuance of your riffs and solos with equal amounts of ease and elegance. Custom Tonestack Inherited from its predecessors, the tone control layout and center frequencies of the original amp served as the foundation for its iconic sound. However, as time passed, guitarists began to look for the greater versatility of more modern amps.
To meet this demand, TC Electronic made careful adjustments to the center frequencies while preserving the overall sound and feel. These subtle modifications enhance the pedals tonal capabilities without compromising its legendary character.
Gain Powerhouse While the second channel of the original is renowned for its high-gain lead capabilities, TC Electronic couldn’t resist adding just a touch of additional gain. This subtle boost serves to tip your sound just a bit further over the edge without changing the original amp’s feel and experience. With this slightly altered high-gain channel, you can unleash soaring tones that will captivate the crowd by pushing the boundaries and expanding the realm of rock guitar even further.
